The issue of whether life begins at conception (see following article) is a point of argument in the current culture war. A recent example is when Judge David Hale heard arguments from the ACLU and EMW clinic v. Kentucky on the Ultrasound Bill. EMW does not wish to accept this legislation, and the abortionist on the stand did not agree that life begins at conception, even though Kentucky law defines it that way.
This ruling is awaited, and will either uphold or kill the Ultrasound law that our 2017 Legislature passed. Please use our hashtags on social media to help educate your friends that you are in favor of this law. On the KRLA website are many links to web pages that uphold its purpose--to save lives. Clearly seeing when life has begun

In January of this year, Sen. Rand Paul introduced the "Life at Conception" Act. The bill was assigned to the Senate Judiciary committee on Jan 24. It has nine co-sponsors, all Republicans.
The reason for the legislation is to ensure equal protection under the 14th Amendment for the right to life of each born and unborn human:
"No State shall make or enforce any law which shall abridge the privileges
or immunities of citizens of the United States; nor shall any State deprive any person
of life, liberty, or property, without due process of law; nor deny to any person
within its jurisdiction the equal protection of the laws." (from Section 1)
A companion bill was introduced in the House (HB681) and rests with their Subcommittee on the Constitution and Civil Justice.
This bill declares that: (1) the right to life guaranteed by the Constitution is vested in each human and is a person's most fundamental right; (2) each human life begins with fertilization, cloning, or its equivalent, at which time every human has all the legal and constitutional attributes and privileges of personhood; and (3) Congress, each state, the District of Columbia, and each U.S. territory have the authority to protect all human lives.
This is a strange definition of when life starts, however, don't assume Sen. Paul approves of cloning (etc.) These bills or very similar have been introduced for more than a decade. A summary of the congressional confusion on cloning may be read here.

This is where the confusion starts. A clone is a genetic copy of another organism. Perhaps most people think of "reproductive cloning" where a copy of an animal is made, for example, Dolly the sheep, cloned 20 years ago (RIP 2/2003).
There is also "therapeutic cloning" --the creation of an embryo "that will never be allowed to develop beyond a clump of cells, and will never be implanted into a woman."
There we go again--clump of cells-- Language brings us choices, and we prolifers would not call the therapeutic clone a clump, but what would we call it? The Life at Conception act calls it human life, but is it? If the therapeutically engendered embryo is made from the nucleus of a cell of a woman and inserted into a human egg whose nucleus has been removed, the embryo has two mommies, right? But to be human, shouldn't a clone be invented by a male and female in order to meet the Life at Conception Act's criteria? It's inconceivable (no pun intended).
No matter how impossible it may at times seem, let's continue to promote a consistent Life ethic. God cares.

Patients Rights Council Report

The America Medical Association (AMA) is considering changing its decades-long opposition to doctors participating in the intentionally induced deaths of patients. There is an effort within the AMA for the group to take a neutral stand on doctor-assisted suicide in 2017.
